When Your Calling Feels Too Big

“For I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:13

The brief lands in your inbox and your stomach drops a little. The scope is bigger than anything you have done before. The expectations are high, the timeline is tight, and the gap between what they are asking for and what you feel confident delivering right now is impossible to ignore. You open the file, stare at a blank canvas, and for a moment you genuinely wonder if you are the wrong person for this.

Philippians 4:13 says you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. That promise is not a creative pep talk. It is a statement about where the strength actually comes from, not from your track record, your portfolio, or your current skill level. It comes from Him. And He tends to make that strength available not before the challenge, but inside it.

Think about a developer handed a project that requires a framework they have never worked in before. The pressure to perform without the experience to back it up is real. They could deflect or delay. But leaning in, asking questions, building as they learn, staying dependant on something beyond what they already know, is exactly how that developer grows into someone who can carry bigger assignments. God works the same way in your creative calling.

He does not call creators to comfort. He calls them to growth that requires dependance. When the project stretches you past your confidence, that tension is not a sign you were given the wrong assignment. It may be a sign that God is using this moment to expand what you are capable of carrying.

The calling might feel too big right now. That is okay. Take the first step, then the next. Strength comes as you move, and it comes from the One who called you into this in the first place.

Today’s Focus

Step toward the work that feels too big, trusting God to strengthen you.

A Prayer

Heavenly Father, when my calling feels beyond my ability, give me courage to take the next step. Strengthen my hands and heart for the work ahead. Remind me that You are with me and that every creative challenge is shaping me for what You prepared. Amen.
